How-to install the Nimbus theme in Ubuntu

This article is the followup of Howto install the Sun Nimbus Theme for Gnome

Nimbus is the OpenSolaris Gnome theme.
This guide demonstrates how to install the Nimbus theme in Ubuntu version 8.04, 8.10 , 9.04 and 9.10.

Install the correct repository key
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver --recv-keys 0AAFAD78

Add the repository source to sources.list
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

And add the following sentence

deb jaunty main

Update the repositories

sudo apt-get update

Install the Nimbus theme

sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-nimbus nimbus-icon-theme

  1. Wow, thanks for this tutorial. The Brown theme was really starting to get to me. Canonical should package this alongside Human. Will this repository still work for 9.10?

  2. I love this theme. I remember it in Fedora but I wanted it in Ubuntu 10.04; so works well and it’s a beautiful addition to my computer.
