Yahoo! released version 3.0.0 of the Yahoo! User Interface Library – YUI for short.
The YUI Library is a set of utilities and controls, written with JavaScript and CSS, for building richly interactive web applications using techniques such as DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. YUI is available under a BSD license and is free for all uses.
YUI 3 is the first ground-up redesign of YUI since 2005, and it brings with it a host of modernizations:
- Selector-driven: YUI 3 is built around one of the lightest, fastest selector engines available, bringing the expressive power of the CSS selector specification into actions that target DOM nodes.
- Syntactically terse: Without polluting the global namespace, YUI 3 supports a more terse coding style in which more can be accomplished with less code.
- Self-completing: YUI 3’s light (6.2KB gzipped) seed file can serve as the starting point for any implementation. As long as this seed file is present on the page, you can load any module in the library on the fly. And all modules brought into the page via the built-in loader are done so via combo-handled, non-blocking HTTP requests. This makes loading the library safe, easy and fast.
- Sandboxed: YUI modules are bound to YUI instances when you
use()them; this protects you against changes that might happen later in the page’s lifecycle. (In other words, if someone blows away a module you’re using after you’ve created your YUI instance, your code won’t be affected.)

Version 2.8.0 of the Yahoo! User Interface has been released.
This release brings in four new components (Storage Utility, SWFStore Utility, SWF Utility, and the ProgressBar Control) along with hundreds of fixes and enhancements.

Pidgin (formally known as Gaim) 2.6.0 has been released.
Pidgin is an easy to use and free chat client used by millions. Connect to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and more chat networks all at once.
Pidgin is available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS and the source.
This version adds support for video and voice chat over XMPP, the Jabber/Google Talk protocol.
Furthermore it includes a number of bugfixes and splits the Yahoo! protocol into two separate protocol plug-ins, one for Yahoo! and one for Yahoo! JAPAN. More important, the Yahoo! plug-ins now support P2P file transfers and the MSN plug-in can now receive audio clips and hand-written (ink) messages. Preliminary support for the new AIM and ICQ authentication scheme, called “clientLogin”, has also been added.
