Sun has released the first official binairy release of the OpenSolaris operating system. OpenSolaris is freeware and based on Sun`s Solaris OS.

Most important functions are:

  • Gnome 2.20
  • Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice.org, Compiz, The Gimp
  • Java 6
  • Apache, PHP, MySQL
  • Dtrace monitoring
  • ZFS filesystem
  • IPS package manager
  • Visualisation functions
